About Me

Cayman Hogue is a bassoonist currently located in Nashville, TN. She has been studying bassoon at Belmont University in Nashville, TN, under Professor Dong-Yun Shankle. Cayman plays music ranging from classical music to music from soundtracks.

Coming from a small island called Fernandina Beach in Florida, she started off as a percussionist and pianist. She played in the FBHS marching band, jazz band, and concert band under the direction of Tyler Odom. During her time at FBHS, she took lessons from Dr.Erin Bodnar and played in the University of North Florida’s Concert Band as well. Cayman also played in many musicals, playing synthesizer in Beauty and the Beast, Legally Blonde, She Loves Me, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. With exposure to so many forms of music, she went to college at Belmont University.

Throughout Cayman's time at Belmont, she has played with many ensembles. Currently, she is playing bassoon and contrabassoon in Belmont’s orchestra and wind ensemble. The other ensemble she plays in when not in Belmont’s rehearsals is Middle State Sinfonietta, and playing in the pit for operas. During the summers, she returned home and helped teach the front ensemble with FBHS’ marching band as a front tech.

Cayman is now teaching piano and bassoon to students in Nashville. She is working on arrangements for pieces for woodwinds and specifically arranging bassoon music. Upcoming works with her include concerts with Belmont University and her senior recital. Her senior recital will feature French music, a woodwind quartet, and contrabassoon.
